Groping or Sexual Abuse By A Medical Provider
If you or someone you know has suffered from groping or sexual abuse by a medical provider, you should contact Brendan F. Mulligan, the dental injury attorney.
Sexual abuse can occur any where and at any time. Just because someone is a medical professional doesn’t mean that can’t be a sexual predator.
It doesn’t matter if you are a women or man, young or old, you can be the victim of sexual abuse. A medical provider, be it a physician, nurse, dentist, chiropractor or podiatrist, should never touch you in a sexual or inappropriate manner.
You should never be physically examined and/or treated by a professional alone in a room. A third person should always be present. While there is some limited circumstances this is not possible, for example in psychiatric or psychological therapy, this should be considered a limited exception and not the rule.
Unlawful Touching By A Medical Provider Should Never Occur
While operatories and treatment rooms should be private, there should never be a locked door and/or a feeling that you are not able to freely leave.
In the event you are sedated, be it oral, IV, nitrous oxide, conscious or general anesthesia, no part of your body should ever touched without your permission.
A professional should never date a patient under his/her care.
Under no circumstances should professional services ever be paid for or the balance of an account dismissed through a patient having to provide sexual services. This is considered unethical and unprofessional conduct.
If you or someone you know has been the victim of groping, unlawful touching or sexual abuse by a medical professional remember to call Brendan F. Mulligan, D.M.D., Esq.
